Position: Bicycle Mechanic

Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Bicycle mechanics
• Building community among customers, volunteers, program participants and staff
• Facilitation of Cycling Education Workshops
• General shop management
• Community program support
• Other tasks as required
General Duties:
• Repair customer bicycles
• Refurbish bicycles and conduct quality checks on refurbished bicycles completed by
others
• Foster relationships with customers, volunteers, and community partners
• Equip and support volunteers, teaching bicycle repairs and general cycling
educational components
• Facilitate meaningful, helpful, and pleasant conversations with customers, volunteers,
staff and program participants
• Maintain Standards: safe and clean work environment, compliance with policies
procedures, quality education, quality service
Shop Duties:
• Engage customers and conduct quality and honest repair services
• Support the work of volunteers working on refurbishing bicycles
• Contribute to maintaining a healthy supply of inventory

• Contribute to the development of systems and procedures: Intake and storage of
bicycles - Health and safety protocols - Inventory management (maintain equipment,
parts/supplies, and inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and
anticipate need)
Qualifications:
• Must have a strong commitment to the values and mission of New Hope Community
Bikes
• Experience in bike mechanics an asset
• Ability to repair, explain, and educate others about bike repairs
• Inventory Management experience
• Valid First Aid/CPR certificate
• Able to clear a police security check working with vulnerable populations
• Comfortable working with a wide variety of community members
• Ability to work independently and resolve problems independently
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills
(Microsoft Office skills; database management and comfort with confidential files
considered an asset)
• Committed to professionalism, thoroughness, dependability, flexibility and being a
strong, positive role-model
• Ability to work flexible hours/days and in a variety of settings (within the shop and in
the community)
Terms: This position is based at New Hope Community Bikes at 1249 Main Street East,
Hamilton, ON
This is a seasonal, full-time position: 37.5 hours/week, 8-hour day shifts, with flexibility for
evening work. Saturday availability is required.
Salary Range: $18-$23/hour
