Job Description
The Service Apprentice at the Bicycle Tailor will provide reliable, honest, and
exceptional quality service while ensuring customers feel welcomed and
comfortable. Possesses a dedication to exceeding expectations.
The Ideal Candidate
2+ years of mechanical experience working on bicycles in a bike shop setting is
required.
Experience using a POS.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Strong attention to detail, organized, and the ability to manage time and prioritize
workflows for self and team.
Intrinsically motivated, positive work ethic with a passion for all things cycling.
Able to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Adaptable, teachable and thrives in a dynamic environment.
Your Responsibilities:
To assist the Service Manager in all required capacities.
Repair and maintain all make and model bicycles and cycling equipment.
To advance your technical skills.
Assist service writing; provide customers with accurate cost estimate quotes and
maintenance suggestions.
Learn to accurately complete bike builds, repairs, tune ups, sales checks, and
accessory installation on time and with the highest quality standards.
Maintain organized and efficient service areas.
Work closely with the Service Manager and Store Manager assisting with the
daily operations of the store including closing sales, order management, and
customer service.
Commitment to learning new skills and share knowledge about new products and
repair techniques.
Help customers with new bike and gear sales and service.
Assist sales associates and customers with technical questions and purchases.
Learn, understand, and adhere to established company policy, programs, and
standards.
Perform other tasks assigned by the owner.
Service Skills: Responsible working directly with the repair shop operations at an
apprentice level maintaining excellent quality service and support. Contributes to the
overall success of the company by participating in all aspects of the business. Highly
fluent at diagnosing and fixing all types of mechanical issues on all types of bicycles
including, but not limited to:
Bottom bracket install and overhauls
Brake install and adjustment including mechanical and hydraulic disc brakes
Cassette and freewheel install
Derailleur install and adjustment
Familiarity with proper Wheel building and truing techniques
Familiarity with E-Bike
Familiar with Electronic Drivetrain and willing to learn
Apprentice Skills:
Completion of all assigned tasks
Establish tangible personal and store goals
Assist other mechanics with repairs
Follow proper safety practice and guidelines
Ensure customer service standards are being met
Help maintain a positive work environment
Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization of the repair shop
Responsible for ensuring the facilities of the building are working correctly
Responsible for basic facility management and upkeep. (Responsibility assigned
by the owner)
