Assistant Manager - London Bicycle Cafe - London, ON

Assistant Manager: Jan 11, 2022–Until Filled

Succeed with Purpose.

The London Bicycle Café requires an assistant manager to help us deliver on our vision of more people cycling for transport in 2022 and beyond. Aligned with our mission, the Assistant Manager represents a key member of the 21st century mobility vanguard, enabling citizen cyclists to travel “To The Grocery Store And Beyond” in style and comfort.

Context

The Climate and Ecological Crisis is a discontinuity in human civilization. It defines the time period we live in as a new era, and will disrupt virtually all human systems (including this business) as the planet changes faster than existing structures can adapt. In order to build a better future for humanity, it is a necessary condition that the people building the component parts of that future must succeed. That’s us (at least in part). Success will come with reward: we aim to create career-level jobs in sales, technical work, hospitality, and logistical spaces.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Your core responsibility is to our customers. You’ll spend most of your time listening to their needs, and using your deep family cycling knowledge base to educate and help them choose the best transportation solutions for themselves, their family, or their business. We work for our growing community first.

  • Be trusted in our community. Our clients are referred by friends and family, and our reputation as Southwestern Ontario’s leaders in transportation cycling relies on our continued commitment to our customers.

  • Help to coach employees to improve their skills, knowledge, and career development.

  • Aid in developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and quality standards.

  • Regularly update knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

  • Accomplishes our goals by accepting ownership for fulfilling new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to our customers.

Salary and Work Environment

  • This is a salaried position paying $45,000 annually. Your typical work week will be 40 hours, but operational needs may dictate that you work up to 44 hours per week in busy season (April, May, June), and as few as 28 hours per week in our slower season (December, January, February).

  • Our operations are limited to emergency repairs and online consultations around the last ten days of the calendar year and the first ten days of the following year, and you will have very limited responsibilities during this time.

  • Perks include family bike benefits, seasonal ebbs and flows (including time off over the winter holidays), working with a great team, and getting to know the wonderful people who make up the #LdnOntBike community. Plus, you’ll get to ride the TVP to work every day.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Coaching: Help a person (Staff or Customers) develop enthusiasm, knowledge, and skills in everyday cycling.

  • Fostering teamwork: Get to know all your team members and the community. Provide them each with the tools and guidance they need in order to fully realise their potential. Nurture the team by promoting relationships of mutual respect and honesty

  • Organization: Have a system to focus on your work and have confidence to forecast and meet goals.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Proficiency with office software, and general computer operation

  • Previous sales experience is an asset

  • Previous bicycle mechanical experience is an asset

  • Previous people management experience is an asset
