Job Description: The Bike Medics was a business my father and I started and ran Manitoulin Island for 20 years. After my father passed a number of years ago, I sold the remaining inventory and tools to a friend and he took over. The business changed hands again and unfortunately was run into the ground. The business went into receivership last year.

It is my desire to bring the Bike Medics back to life. It is a very seasonal gig with most activity starting in May, ramping up in June and very busy through July and August with a quick ramp down through September.

We'd be setting up from scratch. I'm currently looking for a physical space to set up shop.

Job Description: We are currently looking for a bike mechanic /Bicycle Rental and tour Associate to wok with us. As one of our team members, you will perform a variety of tasks, including

- Maintaining and repairing our 75+ rental/tour bike fleet. We do have variety of bikes including hybrid, cruiser, tandem, electric bike, children's bike.
- Welcome guests and provide outstanding hospitable experiences for the guests and walk in customers
- Process bike rentals
- Fit customers to bikes and explain how their bikes work
- Explain rules of the road and safe biking techniques
- Suggest great bike routes and explain our bike routes to customers
- Listen attentively and give personal recommendations
- Coordinate bike tour preparation and administration (Preparing right size bikes, greeting customers, bike fitting, signing waiver documents)
- Accompany tours occasionally and being the support tour guide
- Perform variety of bike repairs/maintenance/tune up regularly 
- Provide road side bike repair assistance for tours and rentals when needed
- Perform bike tune ups for the entire fleet before the end of season sales and assist with the sale of bikes
- Answer phone calls and emails
- Operate POS system and collect payment; ensure the smooth operation of customer check-outs at the cash register
- Open and close the shop
- Keep retail space and floor clean and tidy

Requirements and qualifications
- Bike mechanic/repair/maintenance skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and preferably French too
- Friendly, welcoming personality for all types of people
- Excellent people and relationship building skills, team player with a positive attitude
- Planning, organizational and tracking skills and attentive to details
- Resourceful with an ability to multitask, work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
- Previous sales/customer services experience and commitment to providing exceptional and high quality service
- Availability to work a variety of shifts: (Weekends, Holidays, Days).
- Ability to stand for extended periods and to lift bicycles.

Minimum Requirements

Bike knowledge is a must. Previous bike mechanic experience is not needed but a big help. Will consider extra training for the right candidate. Ability to be self motivated, prioritize your workday, multitask and be detail-oriented. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and take direction well. Ability to create an excellent customer experience. Good time management skills. A sense of urgency

Compensation

Depends on level of experience and proficiency in mechanic skills. Might have a working interview to determine skill & proficiency.

14-17/hour depending on experience & skill set. 35-40 hours a week depending on the season

Position Prerequisites

Bike Mechanic position requires standing up to 8 hours per shift as well as bending, leaning and kneeling on a regular basis. Applicant must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in order to perform job functions. Applicant must be able to work in an environment where the climate can change frequently and be able to handle stressful situations. The job description is not meant to be all-inclusive. It is understood that the employee will also perform other reasonable related business duties if requested by the store manager.
